COE Approval → Student Visa

COE approval means the Immigration Services Agency of Japan has officially confirmed that:

  • You meet the requirements to study in Japan
  • Your purpose of stay (student) is valid
  • Your documents and financial proof are acceptable

Once approved, the COE is issued. This is not the visa, but it is the most important document to get the student visa.

  • If COE is approved, the school sends it to you.
  • With COE, you can then apply for a student visaat the Japanese Embassy/Consulate.

Note: The documentation stage is critical — missing or incorrect documents can delay COE approval. So double-check translations, signatures, and financial proofs.

Key Points to Remember

✔️ COE approval = you are eligible to stay in Japan ✔️ COE does not allow entry by itself (visa required) ✔️ COE validity: 3 months (you must apply for visa within this time)
